As every year, ALBÉNIZ, as active GLOBAL COMPACT member, reports publicly the actions implemented in the previous year in the 10 principles.
GLOBAL COMPACT - COMMUNICATION ON PROGRESS (COP) YEAR 2017
In June 2000, the U.N. launched a challenge to all the companies in the world asking them to join the 10 universal principles in ethical, social and environmental matters which constitute the Global Compact. The respect to these basic values is totally integrated in the day to day way as ALBENIZ works, both internal and externally, that is why we decided to join the Global Compact. We did it in October 2008.
One of the obligations that have the companies joined to Global Compact is to implement precise actions which contribute to advance in the respect of the 10 principles and to their integration in the company’s culture. Additionally, they must make a public communication to the stakeholders about the actions implemented and this is the reason why we make this communication in our corporate website. You can see the same information in the website of Global Compact (http://www.unglobalcompact.org).
ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED IN YEAR 2017
ACTION Nº 1
Concerned area: Human Rights
Declaration of support to the precise area:
EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A. declares its support to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to implement the principles 1 and 2 in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture.
Concerned principles:
- Principle nº 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
Title of the action:
English courses for employees.
Content of the action:
We have incorporated into the training plan of the company the realization of an English course for all people in the office area. This English course is held for 9 months a year and is taught during working hours. It is taught in 3 different levels to adapt the classes to the different levels of English of pupils.
Expected goals:
Achieve professional and personal development of employees through English courses in a way that does not interfere with the family life of each employee.
ACTION Nº 2
Concerned area: Labour Standards
Declaration of support to the precise area:
EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A. declares its support to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to implement the principles 3, 4, 5 and 6 in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture. We declare specifically our commitment to respect the Labour Law and the workers' rights.
Concerned principles:
- Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Title of the action:
Installation of "anti-slip" type floors
Content of the action:
Installation of "anti-slip" type floors in all the dressing areas of the plant.
Expected goals:
Continue improving in the reduction of risk of accidents
ACTION Nº 3
Concerned area: Environment
Declaration of support to the precise area:
Even if our activity (self-adhesive labels manufacturing) is not especially pollutant and wastes are not considered as dangerous for the environment, we declare our support to the principles 7, 8 and 9 and our strong commitment to put in place policies and actions in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture.
Concerned principles:
- Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
- Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility
Title of the action:
New room for storage of chemical products.
Content of the action:
We have installed a new room for the storage of printing inks and varnishes.
Expected goals:
The objective is to store the printing inks and varnishes in an area which is protected and isolated of the production area, in order to reduce drastically the risk of spills of liquid products, pollution and fire.
ACTION Nº 4
Concerned area: Anti-Corruption
Declaration of support to the precise area:
EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A. declares its support to principle 10 and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to avoid all forms of corruption, in particular extortion and bribery, in order to integrate this principle progressively in the company's culture.
Concerned principle
- Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
Title of the action:
Phase 3 of "System of Prevention of Criminal Risks in the Company"
Content of the action:
Develop Phase 3 of the implementation of the "System of Prevention of Criminal Risks in the Company":
- Train and inform employees of the criminal risks in which the company could incur.
- Implement the systematics so that employees can report any incident related to these criminal risks, and that this notification is escalated to the management.
Expected goals:
The goal is that all the company's personnel know what actions can be considered criminal offenses and establish a system to be able to report any incident or action that could become a criminal offense. This will prevent possible penalties to the company for crimes and ensures its continuity.
